Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the tape you use strong enough to hold labels in a cool, damp wine cellar?
Ans: Yes. The tape is an industrial strength 3M double-sided tape. I have done extensive testing on the longevity of the tape and have some labels that have been in my wine cellar for 15 years. This is not a tape you can buy in a hardware store. Contact us if you need extra tape at no charge.

2. The Brass would not look right in my wine cellar. Do you have labels that are more silver in color?
Ans: Yes. We can make Wine Rack Labels from an Aluminum blank. The engraved letters on the Aluminum oxidizes black as on the Brass. The Aluminum labels are lighter in weight than the Brass labels, but still have the same protective coating on the Aluminum that is on the Brass labels. If you want your labels in Aluminum, either enter “Aluminum” in the special instructions as you check out, or Contact us with your instructions.

3. The spaces for labels in my wine cellar require me to put labels above and below the wine. Do you have an arrow that shows the direction of the varietal?
Ans: Yes. We have arrows that can be engraved in front of or after the varietal name. The arrows can be engraved pointing up or down. Click on a custom label box in the order form for the size label you want, type in what you want on the label and then add a dash and “arrow up” or “arrow down” either before or after the label content depending on where you want it. This will show on the order form so we will provide your arrow in the proper position and orientation. There will be no dash on the label.

4. I would prefer block lettering on the varietal labels. Do you have a block style?
Ans: Yes. We have a Verdana block that contains upper- and lower-case letters. The response to this question is written in the Verdana font. If you want your labels in the Verdana font, either enter “Verdana Font” in the special instructions as you check out, or Contact us with your instructions. Numbers 1, 2, 3, etc.

5. Can I get labels with holes on the end?
Ans: No. Holes require nails to attach the label to the wine rack. Fine redwood racks can split when nails are driven into the wood. Labels nailed to wood are hard to remove and leave holes in the rack if moved.

6. Can I get larger lettering on labels that have shorter varietal names, e.g., MERLOT?
Ans: No. The size of the lettering is uniform to the size of the label in order that the longest varietal name will fit on the label. This provides uniformity to the wine cellar and is more pleasing to the eye.

7. I want something different on a label that is not on your list. Can I get it?
Ans: Yes. Wine Rack Labels will make every effort to accommodate our customers’ requests. Usually, we can accommodate up to a combination of 24 letters and spaces on the varietal labels a total of 7 figures, letters and/or spaces on the Locator Labels, and a maximum of the number 199 horizontally or 2 letters on the mini-locator labels either horizontally or vertically.

8. How is the spelling for the varietal names confirmed, and do the labels come with the proper accent marks?
Ans: Wine Rack Labels uses Sotheby’s Encyclopedia of Wines as the authority on spelling and accent marks used on wine varietals. Wine Rack Labels will contact the customer to resolve any spelling or accent questions before producing the labels. The accent marks do not appear on the Paypal order confirmation, but all appropriate accent marks will appear on the labels. If you want another language, Contact us to assure you receive what you want.

9. All of my wine racks are made of wire. Do you have a way to mount Wine Rack Labels on the wire?
Ans: Yes. We can provide labels with S hooks attached. The open end of the S hooks can go over your wire, and if loosely attached, the labels will swing in and out when bottles are inserted or removed from the rack. We suggest using ½” wide labels for an S hook application as the ¾” width may cause excessive interference with the bottles. The inside diameter of the open hook is ¼”. If your wires have a larger diameter Contact us and we will provide a larger S hook. If you want your labels with S hooks, either enter “S hooks” in the special instructions as you check out, or Contact us with your instructions. (Done at no additional charge).

10. Are Wine Rack Labels safe to put into my humid wine cellar? Will the labels Oxidize further?
Ans: Wine Rack Labels will not further oxidize. The Brass and Aluminum have a clear coat that should protect the surface for years to come. The oxidized letters are stabile. Of course, no harsh chemicals should make contact with the labels. If a label gets wet, it should be dried with a soft cloth.

11. Can I move my labels after I put them on my wine racks?
Ans: Yes. See the installation instructions for the proper removal and/or repositioning method.

12. How do I get more labels after my initial order?
Ans: Order direct from Wine Rack Labels web site www.wineracklabels.com. Wine Rack Labels will be the same size, style of lettering and high quality regardless of when they are ordered.

13. I have a computerized wine locator system. What label style or designator can I use to help me find my wine?
Ans: Wine Rack Labels makes two different Wine Locator Labels especially for computerized wine cellar systems. The Locator label ½”x11/2” designates the column and row numbers at the top of the wine rack. These use a simple letter and numbering method e.g. A 1-18. A is the area locator usually above a row of bottles. 1-18 indicates there are 18 bottles vertically in the row. If the bottle is placed in the third hole down, enter A-3 in the computer. If there are more than 26 areas, the Locator Labels can start with AA, BB, etc. You may also use your own numbering system. Please no more than a total of 7 figures, letters and/or spaces.

The 1/2X3/4” mini-locator labels can use a letter or number at the top of the column and a letter or number at each row. The mini-locator labels can be oriented with the ¾” dimension going either horizontally or vertically.

Wine Rack Labels will try to accommodate any customer request for coding of labels.

See How to use Locator Labels for a pictorial explanation.

14. I use individual wine tags. Will Wine Rack Labels still help locating my wine?
Ans: Yes. The individual bottle tags are great for identifying the winery, vineyard, and vintage, but with 300-400 tags in a cellar it may take some time to find the exact bottle for which you are looking. Wine Rack Labels will get you to the Merlot. The individual bottle tags will then tell you the exact wine.

15. How soon will I receive my order of labels?
Ans: Wine Rack Labels guarantees delivery in the United States within 10 working days of order confirmation and payment. For all but special orders, delivery should be much shorter than the 10 working days. International orders may take up to 15 days.

16. How do I order?
Ans: Use the handy Wine Rack Labels order form. Fill in the quantity for the proper size label or scroll down and order custom labels. If ordering one label at a time is too tedious, Contact us and we will provide a short cut.
